Intro Materials for Learning at Home
Wondering how to get started with the Reading Like a Historian curriculum? Check out our intro materials.
We have a series of activities that introduce students to the historical thinking skills of sourcing, contextualization, corroboration, and close reading without the complexity of reading historical documents.
For example, the Lunchroom Fight II lesson asks students to consider a hypothetical but familiar scenario. Using historical thinking skills, students must investigate who started a fight in the school cafeteria.
The historical thinking chart helps students remember the kinds of questions to ask for each of the historical thinking skills.
Classroom posters for each of the historical thinking skills, available in English and Spanish, can serve to remind students to use them when reading historical sources.
