Like the Slave Quarters assessment, this task requires students to consider the relative strengths and weaknesses of a document as historical evidence. Students with a sophisticated understanding of how to source a document will be able to explain that this source may be reliable because H.R. Haldeman was in a position to know about President Nixon’s level of involvement in the Watergate break-in and was offering sworn testimony under oath. They will also point out that Haldeman had a reason to lie if he or Nixon was involved in the break in or had covered it up.
